Eligibility

  • F.2-4 (Year 9-11) students in the School Year of 2022/2023

Application

  • Participants must join the Grand Challenge on a team basis. Each team must consist of 2 to 4 participants from the same school.
  • Each participant can only represent 1 team in the Grand Challenge.
  • Each school can nominate 2 teams at max. in each division.
  • Only 1 submission from each team is accepted. The submission must be original and have not been used in any other competitions.
  • Each participating school must designate 1 teacher-in-charge for each representing team. Teacher-in-charge is responsible for leading respective teams for participating in events incurred in the Grand Challenge.
  • Teacher-in-charge is responsible for completing the online application process and getting participants’ parents or legal guardians’ prior consents to acknowledge each student for his/her participation in the Grand Challenge.
  • All participants must submit a proposal in the format specified in the “proposal template” .

The following is a list of example questions that students could choose to tackle, but they are also welcome to come up with their own interpretation of the theme of “Tram Modernization”, and they are encouraged to consider a wide range of issues on how the general public interacts with trams.

Founded in 2021, tramplus is a sister company of HK Tramways and owned by the RATP Dev Group.

With the vision to advocate local STEM education, tramplus teams up with the world’s leading institutions and educators to provide easy access to the world-class online and in-curriculum STEM education, by blending in the rich legacy of tram engineering wisdom with modern tech knowledge.

tramplus focuses on STEM-related curricula including basic science, mechanical and electrical engineering, coding and urban development. By approaching these topics from a daily life perspective, tramplus hopes to inspire students to adopt a radical mindset and equip them with a STEM foundation. Hence, equip them with the knowledge and skills to develop a smarter and a more sustainable future for the city.

The theme is “Modernizing Hong Kong Icons: Embracing Smart Mobility and Sustainability”.
Individual entries are not allowed. Participants must join the Grand Challenge on a team basis. Each team must consist of 2 to 4 participants from the same school. Each participant can only represent 1 team in the Grand Challenge.
Yes, there is a slide limit. For every proposal, you will be limited to 1 slide for summary, 3 slides for the Problem, 4 slides for the Solution and 1 slide on the Future of your solution. An annex can be included if necessary. Download Proposal Template
To verify the school nomination of each team, please ask your teacher-in-charge to apply via jotform link and submit the proposal in one go by 18 August 2023.
Your submission entry must be a proposal in a PDF document and must not exceed 10 MB.
All submissions will be evaluated, and 10 entries from the English and Chinese Division respectively will be shortlisted.
We will announce the shortlisted candidates around 1 September 2023 on this website. Stay tuned on our instagram @tramplus.hk for the latest news. All shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a masterclass before the finale.
The finale and awards ceremony will be held at The Forum@M+ on the 2 December 2023. All shortlisted teams must attend the finale.
